Aldi’s New $5 Find Is a Look-Alike of a $265 Designer Product

Estimated read time 3 min read

While Aldi is amazing for budget-friendly groceries and copycat products, one of the best parts of the store is the Finds Aisle. Lovingly known by fans as the “Aisle of Shame,” this section of the store is typically packed with home goods, kitchen gadgets, clothing, and other fun items that beg for an impulse buy. Plus, many Aldi Finds are bargain versions of high-end items and luxury decor—think look-alike Pottery Barn pitchers or Williams Sonoma-esque stock pots—and this week’s $5 find is no exception.

If you stroll the Finds aisle when you hit the store this week, you’ll see the classic display of Kirkton House candles, including this week’s limited-edition scents: Fresh Picked Tomato, Dill Pickle, and Campfire S’mores. And while each scent screams summer, the new one might especially be worth grabbing, since it seems to be a copycat of a luxury candle brand at a fraction of the price.

Aldi’s New Kirkton House Fresh Picked Tomato Candle

Summer is peak tomato season, and Aldi’s new candle celebrates the garden scent and its crisp, peppery aroma. While it smells amazing on its own, the newest Aldi Find—this Kirkton House’s Fresh Picked Tomato candle—might just be a copycat for the designer Loewe’s Tomato Leaves Candle.

The Loewe’s Tomato Leaves candle is beloved for its summer scent and luxurious tomato fragrance inside a gorgeous jar. The downside is that a 21-ounce candle retails for $265. Luckily, at just $4.49 (98 percent less!), Aldi’s Fresh Picked Tomato candle costs pennies on the dollar compared to Loewe’s original—and fans are obsessed.

“I’m loving the tomato candle!” one Aldi customer wrote on Reddit. “It smells like basil, or like when you rub the leaves of a tomato plant between your fingers.” Another user said that the scent is reminiscent of a summer garden.

While the scents are similar, the prices are obviously very different. Beyond that, the Loewe’s candles are 21 ounces (Aldi’s is only 14 ounces) and boast two wicks and a gorgeous glazed terra-cotta red jar with an imprinted logo. Loewe’s size lends itself to a longer burn time, but the three wicks in Aldi’s version mean that the candle will burn more evenly.

The store’s new tomato candle is part of the chain’s weekly Finds, so it’s available starting June 11 on a first come, first serve basis through the 17th. If you want to snag the viral candle scent for yourself, be sure to head to your local Aldi—and consider stocking up before the summer candles are gone for good. Just think of it this way, you can buy 50 Kirkton House Fresh Picked Tomato candles and still not spend $265.
