Helldivers 2 had a busy launch week on PC and PS5, and now that the democratic dust has settled, Arrowhead CEO and game director Johan Pilestedt has reflected on the challenges faced by the studio and how it plans to iron out lingering technical issues.
“I am completely exhausted by the success. So is the team, many, many late nights, on-calls, emergency meetings, discussions around server capacity, shards, capacity units, CPU utilization, login rates, and CCU (concurrent players),” Pilestedt wrote. “Tired, but very, very pleased. While I dread this weekend from a technical perspective, the team has done a fantastic job in ironing out the kinks and I hope you all will be able to have a great time playing the game.”
Due to player demand and not enough server capacity at launch, Helldivers 2 had some technical issues to iron out. Arrowhead quickly increased server capacity, and after some maintenance to work on matchmaking issues, the studio is planning to hire more staff.
In a response to a fan thanking Pilestedt and Arrowhead for their hard work, the CEO said that a new roadmap was being worked on as the old roadmap is “very out of date” in comparison to what the studio is aiming to accomplish. Just don’t expect a PvP mode to be added, as Arrowhead wants to avoid the toxic elements associated with that style of gameplay.
“Helldivers 2 is just a really good time, and it banks on that being enough to convince you to stick around for a long time. Frankly, I’m sold–it’s the most fun I’ve had in a new shooter in years,” Jordan Ramée wrote in GameSpot’s Helldivers 2 review.
