Little Debbie’s New Bakery Treat Looks Just Like a Hostess Fan-Favorite

Certain brands have a way of just nailing nostalgia. Jell-O, Moon Pies, Goldfish, for example. They all have a talent for launching new stuff that still feels wonderfully old-fashioned. But Little Debbie? It’s truly mastered the craft.

Whether it’s a new line of ice creams or a fresh take on a classic snack cake, everything in the Little Debbie lineup feels like it’s been around forever, practically since the company started back in 1935.

And its latest creation is no different. Honestly, if we hadn’t seen the official announcement, we probably could’ve been convinced it had been there all along. Besides, it doesn’t look too far off from a fan-favorite treat that’s already been on shelves. 

Little Debbie Launches New Old Fashioned Donuts

On National Donut Day, Little Debbie took to Instagram to unveil its newest sweet creation: Old Fashioned Donuts. And yes, they already look perfectly at home in the Little Debbie family.

These donuts are made in a traditional cake style, meaning the batter is more like—you guessed it—cake batter, instead of a yeasty donut dough. The result is a richer, denser, and more buttery flavor with a distinct crispiness on the outside (especially when fried) and charmingly craggy bits that perfectly hold glazes.

Now, they definitely resemble the already-existing Donut Sticks, with the crisp, crackly edges and sweet, thick glaze. But what’s really surprising is how much they remind us of a product from a close competitor: Hostess. In fact, Hostess introduced old-fashioned donuts to shelves in the form of its signature Donettes just two years before. The biggest difference here is the size—Hostess’ treats are bite-sized while Little Debbie’s are as big as the ones you’d find at a bakery. 

And just from peeking at the photo on the box, even before we take a bite, we know they’re going to be over-the-top comforting. Fans are already showing love to the new baked treat in the comments: “THIS IS GENERATIONAL,” one person wrote. “Totally amazing new product!!!” added another.

These individually-wrapped treats are coming in six-packs and should be hitting stores across the country later this month, according to the brand.

Even though fans seem to be thrilled with the plain cake version, they’re already dreaming up other old-fashioned ideas. “We need these in apple cinnamon too,” one person chimed in, while others are requesting chocolate chip. With this brand-new donut style, Little Debbie’s collection is sure to keep growing—hopefully bringing us even more treats that feel like instant classics.
