For six years, Mountain Dew lovers have been able to enjoy the unique flavor of Sweet Lightning, exclusively at KFC. The honey- and peach-flavored soda was first introduced in 2019, designed to complement the restaurant’s famous 11 herbs and spices. Fried chicken and a peach drink—talk about the perfect Southern meal. 

Now, the two brands are teaming up once again for a seasonal spin on the fan favorite. The new drink is based on a viral trend you may have seen while scrolling on your “For You” page on TikTok. The result? A nostalgic drink you’ll want to sip on all summer long.  

Mountain Dew and KFC Launch New Sweet Lightning Peaches & Cream Soda

The Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning Peaches & Cream Soda is just the latest in the brand’s spree of summer releases, following Mango Rush, Baja Cabo Citrus, and its latest, Mountain Dew Dragon Fruit. And this time, it turned to social media for inspiration. 

The new drink was inspired by the viral “dirty soda” trend, where users add a splash of heavy cream and various flavored syrups to their soft drinks for a creamy, unique spin on any flavor of soda. 

The Sweet Lightning Peaches & Cream “dirty” soda adds a swirl of vanilla cream to the honey-peach soda for a bold twist that “elevates every sip,” according to a press release. The combo is creamy, sweet, and mimics the taste of your favorite peaches and cream dessert, making it perfect for the warmer months. And fans are already showing their support for the drink.

“I think it sounds awesome, and I’m excited to try it!,” one Reddit user shared. 

Another Mountain Dew fan is ready to commute for a sip of the sweet treat. “The nearest KFC to me is like 20 mins away, but I would definitely go out of my way to try this at least once. I love the Dirty Baja Blast, so I’m sure this will be great too,” they said. 

This release is a part of KFC’s collab with the upcoming summer blockbuster “F1: The Movie.” It’s also bringing the iconic meal deal, Fill Ups, back to the menu with options for tenders, fried chicken, and KFC’s Famous Bowl combos for just $7. Paired with the new drink, it makes for the most delicious pit stop ever.
